Ouch!
Why Does My Shoulder Hurt When I Sleep On It?
Shoulder pain is an all too frequent occurrence striking most people in their lifetime. But when it impedes your ability to sleep, what can you do?
If your pain is not getting better and sleeping is difficult, try sleeping on your back or your other shoulder. This will take the pressure off your painful shoulder. If the pain does not get better or worsens, stop all aggravating activities and positions and see your Physical Therapist or MD. The pain could be one of several diagnoses including rotator cuff injury such as impingement, Subacromial bursitis, Adhesive Capsulitis, or Osteoarthritis.
Treatment may include posture re-education, strengthening weak muscles, stretching tight muscles, pain-relieving modalities, or possibly a cortisone injection from an MD.
It is important to get the correct diagnosis and treatment to resolve your pain from a qualified health care provider to return you to good and restful sleep.
Here’s to a great night’s sleep!
