What is Good Standing Posture?
Last week we talked about how to sit with good posture. There is a growing trend to stand at work or in your home office. So how do we go about standing correctly? Because while standing might be better than sitting, it’s only good if you’re doing it the right way!
The middle image is ideal posture. We want the head over the shoulders, over the pelvis, over the foot. In this posture our muscles will actually be at their most relaxed state while standing. Shift our center of mass forward or backwards and our muscles will react by becoming more tonic and through off our center of balance.
Below I included another image of how to properly stand at a desk- how to choose the height and position of your computer. I also like to have a small step under the desk, about 4 inches off the ground to rest a foot on. You can switch feet throughout your day. It’s more ideal to shift weight this way, rather than letting one hip drop down.
And lastly, you may only want to stand a portion of the day, especially at the beginning.
