PN Medical recommends the “Take 5” technique. The recommend taking 5 “quality” breaths before you put on your mask. Repeat the 5 breaths with the mask on. Then again after you remove your mask. This technique resets the breathing pattern making mask breathing easier.
Try this:
Inhale for 4 seconds through your nose
Exhale for 6 seconds through your mouth
Pause for 2 seconds
Repeat this exercise
Doing this 5 times will help reset your breathing pattern.
If you breathing becomes shallow again later in the day, perform the above breathing exercise again. This technique teaches your body how to breathe correctly with your mask on.
